Stormy Season

Great to be introduced to Al Harris, the poet Caascadia Artpost quotes on his atmospheric but troubling card. The world is stormy, figuratively and literally: Mugabe in Zimbabwe; an earthquake in South Korea. I expect the pall of thefires still hangs around south of Cascadia, too.

In england we talk about the weather lots.  East Anglia, where I live, is the driest part of the UK.  It is drizzling at the moment.  I'm kind of high (for the barely above sea-level county) and the wind whips around often.

I got my winter clothes out today.  Before long it might even be cold enough for me to light the fire in the studio.

You can learn about Al and find his poems here: http://www.alharris.com/poems/support/storm.htm

Sue Marsdon sends green mail art

Sue Marsdon is a local artist, chair caner, mail artist and friend who has stayed in or house to look after Lyra when we've been away in the summer.  This was Sue's Christmas card to me, a beautifully composed photo of some of my stuff, used and washed by Sue then hung in an aesthetic line. It makes me want to run outside with my shoes off.  Unfortunately that might result in frost bite, so I will blog instead.

You can see Sue's chairs here: http://suemarsdon.co.uk/index.html

Tree love from Diana Hale

This beautiful cascading tree tryptic arrived from Diana Hale.  It fills me full of hope for 2017.  Thanks, Diana!

Aristide 3108 missing mail art NOW FOUND!

I decided to put a place-marker here so that once I find Aristide 3108's latest mail art postcard I will be able to insert it in time order!

It has been another ridiculously busy time and mail art has been pushed to the corners.  I got a great postcard form Aristide and filed it somewhere and now that I need it, it is missing.

Stay tuned and await the update, once I locate the treasure!

Ha ha, It was in the locked box buried in the garden!

Enl 2 Rott - Germany

What a beautiful aesthetic piece  I wish I knew who to thank.  If you know, please let me know…
It's haptic, asemic (because I can't read the letters or words, even though they are letters and words, I think), curious, full of time.
This is sort of mail art that makes me want to write, to tell a story, to time travel.

Meral Ağar sends photo (thank you) reply

I sent Meral a postcard for her Istanbul mail art project and in reply she sent me a photo from her own camera.
I went to Istanbul many years ago and perhaps time has romanticised it. I loved it at the time.  I remember that. I kept all the tickets and memorabilia, intending to use it creatively. Life, travel, family - the moment - meant that I carried around the box of stuff without even looking into it.  The mail art call took me into the box.  Meral's piece creates a mood that is certainly at odds with my memory but that doesn't diminish its impact! Thank you Meral.

This is what I sent to Istanbul...
