A Sunprint from Lockdown

I have correspondents with whom I have exchanged infrequently for years.  Carmela falls into this catagory.  It is mostly because I take a long time to return her lovely work. when i do send something and then get something back it is like seeing an old friend. Honestly, mail art correspondents are like gold dust - when I think of these people who make things for me, it is overwhelming.

As well as what I am sharing, Carmela has enclosed a personal note that folds out. I don't usually share those. Aside from reflections about what she received and our muual political worries, I learn that Carmela made this sunprint last summer over lockdown. I have never made a sun print but I can imagine the joy of using the force of the sun in a moment of worry to print from nature. I will treasure this imprint of California as I treasure my correspondence with Carmela!

Carmela and I have harmony and tea to turn to!

I love the subtlety and mark making of Carmela's work.  The colour of this piece thrills me!

I don't know how you are living in lockdown but there are four adults living in our house now... and I am mother.  That is my most recent excuse for not opening Carmela's mail art until now.  We are all covid free, although the two londoners may have had it, mildly, but let's agree that life has certainly changed enormously since my last blog.  I have continued to make a few pieces of mail art but have also been fitting in painting.  I need to create a harmonious world from what I see around me to cope.

I think Carmela and I may share that approach to pandemonium. I also love tea.

Thank you so much for a glorious burst of joy !  Below is my 'blog' reply, a recent egg tempera still life painting. I will find time to reply to your mail art sometime soon. Have a healthy and peaceful holiday weekend.

Carmela's been doodling

Great to get some completed doodles from Carmela!  She's taking a break from mail art but I'll be doing something with her doodles. Stay tuned!

Carmela Rizzuto - Eco-print

Always a pleasure to receive mail art from Carmela.  Her natural aesthetic seems so effortless and yet it would be impossible for me to restrain myself and create something so satisfying with a limited palette!

The postman seemed to go to town stamping, and restamping which adds something unexpected to the simplicity that I think Carmela intended.  I love the way Carmela chose her stamp to nod to that charismatic leaf!
