Feild Observation No 2: road Trip

Amalgamated Confusion's imagination astounds me. I'm not entirely sure what the story is, here, but I know who the characters are: someone on a field trip which I think might have failed FEILD because a comet struck the vehicle barrelling down the coastal road.  Or perhaps it's extraterrestrial, or there is radiation, or Covid, as there is a man in hazmat suit.  

In the UK people took to the road in their adapted vans to wild camp during Covid.

I always love the detail of Keith's mailings. and I wonder about his process. Is this digitally painted? And I LOVE the fire extinguiser stamp and the bird of prey hovering. Thank you! You are at the top of my return list.

 

Flexus Queen and the Corona (ISO) Games

First, an apology for uploading these in a random order. But, I have to admit to loving the image that came up first. This 'Pansy' ATC reads dragon or bird, to me.  Its delicacy makes me swoon .  Vizma chose well and the algorithym in my scanner was on message.

It's been a long time since I had mail from Vizma, but it's certainly not her fault. Mail art, as far as I'm concerned, is a slow conversation. This participant has been very, very slow but what I notice is that Vizma's generosity and the variety in her mailings persists. I love the gem washi tape, too.

I may have mentioned that I turned sixty after Christmas so, I think Vizma may be aluding to that. The answer is, not blurry, but fun and fizzy.  We played a game our daughter invented with her partner about mudlarking and another game, my husband found that turned our kitchen table into a curling rink. In 2019 I was sick, sick, sick.  This year it was much better! and we had a scrumptious meal and a cake to die for.

When I stamp a rubber stamp I always think about 'exquisite corpse' Vizma has done it perfectly here.

!! I love the way the mail art community has taken the virus and played with it. I bought some fabric in a pack of offcuts and when I was composing a mask discovered that it read coronavirus. All I can say is ouch.

Barcode Restaurants

So excited to receive my first mail from Artist in Seine (if he is in Seine) for at least a year or two.I'm also excited and a little nostalgic to receive this postcard. It probably arrived right around the day we exited the EU. Long sigh, to be followed by pining for being part of Europe. and if Tavernas or bistros don;t have barcode paintings, then they should! They are very cool. I'll have pommes frites and that rosso di tavola will do fine.  Thank you, Dean.

Locked down in Sicily!

It's so exciting to be on David's Christmas list! I am terribly sorry to hear that he has been 'trapped' in Sicily since lockdown. But this armchair sleuth notices a few inconsistencies. When we lived  in Rome we discovered that you can only buy hiking boots in season and there are no footpaths. I find it difficult to imagine they could scale that balancing rock without appropriate footwear.

But I am happy to hear that they have found gainful employment… the thing is you need a work visa to work in Italy and there is an enormous bureacracy to get the papers.  I wonder how they got around all of that? In two years I never could.

Happy New Year, Patti and David! Wherever you are, I hope you are plugged into the news.  This world is insane! This is a great card , hearkening back to the grand tour and burlesque beach.

 

Pachyderm from History

Ted Trager's postcard arrived towards the end of November.  I remember reading it in the kitchen and swooning.

For me, mailart is communication: visual and textual. this piece also told a story and had historical significance. the way the text sits on the page, the variety of text AND WHAT IT SAYS combine to say something poignant. and then Ted also types my name in red and the stamps are perfect too. 

So zoom in, read the text and then tell Ted why you love this!

Jane has given me many cards over the years.  This one was actually for Patrick's birthday and our anniversary (October). Jane posted another beautiful card (below) on my facebook page which was remarkably in sync with the kitchen festivities I awoke to!

What's Cookin?

It's always fun to get mail from someone new and Kathy qualifies with this particulalry fun mailing. My 86 year old mum was alone this Christmas and she told me she was getting tv dinner. what I imagined was something like this! Kathy's wonderful business card, that looks a bit like a matchbox, took me back to my childhood, or perhaps from the files of Madmen. We ate a few tv dinners and as I recall, my favourite was turkey.

Fluxus bucks come in all sorts of shapes and tenders.  My favourite was the Fluxus Covid Bucks.  One day it will be a collector's item, surely.

In England, on top of Covid, we have bird flu.  Luckily the chickens at the chicken farm are now under cover.

You can never have too much input on colour mixing. Fab!
