Robin Chuter's exhuberant way of seeing!

Robin Chuter has sent me drawn-on photos before and they were beautiful, lyrical little pieces.  I have visited his website before Robin's website and admired his album covers, so it was exciting and delightful to receive two paintings, (one on paper and then framed and another on canvas) as well as a deck of cards from Robin in this correspondence.

My husband tells me that this is the Argentinian rugby team but I'm not sure that matters. It is Robin's response that enhances the madness and fun of the scrum.

I like the way Robin plays with scale here and the the charming otherwordliness that is adorable rather than frightening. Robin describes his work as, 'characterised by merging highly vibrant warm colours with what can be seen as bordering caricature and line art using Indian ink… ' He paints on everything!

Seeing Robin's work 3D and then 2D and then a useful object is absolutely perfect.
Thank you Robin. I like your mind!

Robin Chuter draws on record sleeves and other things

Robin Chuter's mail is a fascinating approach to drawing and stuff. He mentions, Ebru (a turkish marbeling process), microfibres, calligraphy and utensils as some of his tools to make marks. He uses reclaimed material as a substrate for his imagery, creating another-worldly responses to transform leftovers. they are curious, psychedelic, responsive pieces that demand close inspection.

It's fun to be getting to know Robin through pieces of his wondrous art. Many thanks for such a generous mailing!

England erodes while Robin Chuters draws.

Whoop whoop, I received mail from a new (to me) mail artist / artist! The postmark is 3rd of October, so Robin chuter probably thinks I am an terribly ungrateful recipient.  I am not.

When I opened this envelope, the first thing that went through my mind was that someone was sending us some family photos from the past. Patrick's family sold penny farthings and the woman on the penny farthing looks like my mother-in-law (well what she looked like some time ago). and the house has the feel of the family home in Stratford-upon-Avon.  On closer inspection, I realised that these were altered photos, meticulously altered original photos in pen and ink and it was just serendipity that Robin sent them to me.  She seems to be cycling on something of a yellow brick road.  It's magic!
